I was on Facebook last night just seeing what was up. I don’t comment much on there but I still like to see what everyone else is up to. So I’m minding my own business, yes I was, and noticed a site called, I grew up in and the name of the town I graduated in.
Let’s just say that I was not a popular girl. I did not grow up in this town and only spent the last two years of high school there. Needless to say, I was not welcomed too well. But I’m off subject here.
What I found absolutely hilarious is reading what other people remember. I’ve read all about the places but not much about the events. I remember specific events but not specific places. I guess I’m just getting old. It’s either that or I just didn’t care much.
They were still talking about the antiquated gala called May Fete. It’s kind of like having a homecoming queen but this is only for the girls. There is no king. It started about 100 years before I went to school there. And for those of you who know my true age, it means like forever ago. I’ve been out of high school for 31 years now. That means the ritual was really old.
The gist of it is this. It has to do with fertility. Yes! The age-old question of what a girl is to do when she graduates high school. I graduated in 1980 not 1880! What were they thinking by continuing this ancient ritual that degrades females by telling them they are only good for one thing?!!?
I wonder if they still have that ridiculous evening. I will have to ask someone.
And for those of you who are so curious, this was my May Fete photo. OMG!!!
