I feel like sharing some of my photos. I haven't seen much color lately due to the time of year, so I'll just show you some color. I'll be digging through more photos to share. I'll try to write too, but for now, enjoy some color.

Disconnecting

You have the right to disconnect - CNN.com

This is how I feel right now. I just want to stop the ride I'm on for a while and take a break. Why? Because I'm tired of going full bore 24/7. What do you think? How would you like to breathe for just for a moment?

I'm A Law Breaker

(Sorry everyone! I have another repost. I don't seem to have much time these days.)

Yes, I’m a law breaker. Let me explain. I take a lot of photos so it isn’t unusual for me to find a place to drive around, usually a park or campground. We have a place called Goose Island not far from town that’s a really neat place to go. It has winding roads that meander through the park. There are places to pull over that I take frequent advantage of because I always see something that I “need” to take a photo of. I learned today what a terrible person I have been.

Because I say meander, I really do mean meander. I drive slowly through the park, just enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It gives me the opportunity to see more and find a photo op. Here’s the drawback. OTHER DRIVERS!!! Apparently there is an unwritten law that says you are not allowed to slow down and enjoy the view. It gives the law abider the right to tailgate the law breaker. It gives them the right to drive a monster ass truck and run their bumper right up to bumper of the “going too slow” driver. They are allowed to do this for as long as the slow driver is in front of them.

When the slow driver pulls over to let them go around, they are then allowed to flip off the one who pulled over. I believe it’s to teach them a lesson about the effects of slow driving. In addition to flipping off the slow drivers, they are also supposed to give them an extremely irritated and dirty look that is intended to shame them into driving faster. They can even be seen mouthing filthy words to the one who is disrupting their safe and enjoyable drive. I will have to do some research, but I believe it is also a requirement as part of the slow driver’s punishment. If I find out any new info, I’ll be sure and let you know.

I think the lesson we should all take from this is quite simple folks. DO NOT slow down and enjoy the scenery or life. Just drive as fast as you can through life and you’ll be just fine.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

More fun on the Scavenger Hunt Sunday with Ashley at Ramblings and Photos. Challenge yourself! I had fun with this week's prompts.

Decay

At this time of year it is easy to find decay. Old trees and plants that were frozen all winter are now decaying and providing food to new growth.

Groups of 3

These are my three favorite hats. They have all been worn at different times for different reasons. The leather hat on the bottom has been at camp in the Rockies and at Little League games in the Midwest. My kids have hated it in both places. The phrase, "Mom you're embarrassing me (us)" has been heard many, many times.

Kitchen

Okay, I know the suggestion is a self portrait. Here's the problem. I don't take photos of myself.....ever. So you will have to enjoy a photo of an interesting piece of driftwood that hangs in my kitchen. I know, I'm a spoil sport.

Things that make you go hmmmm....

This is an archived photo from last October. During Oktoberfest in our town, a large amount of alcohol is consumed. My question for this person is simple. How much alcohol must you consume to forget to find a porta potty?

"Me" Time

My three favorite authors are in this photo. Oh how I wish I had time to read them.

And next week's categories are....

My Psych Eval

This is a repost. I still find it absolutely hilarious. What do you think?

Once in a while I think of something absolutely ridiculous to do. I thought a personality test would be funny as I already consider myself a bit off. I have taken one of these before through my Psych class at school. I find these just fascinating and probably very wrong, at least about me. I chose a couple of them for kicks and giggles.

The first one is a psychology test. According to this site, I am perfectly sane. Little do they know. The results were as follows:
Disorder | Rating
Paranoid: Low
Schizoid: Low
Schizotypal: Low
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: Low
Avoidant: Low
Dependent: Low
Obsessive-Compulsive: Low

This is the website that is absolutely hilarious to me. It’s the Jung Typology Test. It can be found here for some laughs. I recommend taking this just for the laughs. As you will see, mine are considerably amusing.

According to this one, I am a mastermind. (Picture that being said with sarcasm). LOL!!! I run with the likes of Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Dwight D. Eisenhower, General Ulysses S. Grant, Frideriche Nietzsche, Niels Bohr, Peter the Great, Stephen Hawking, John Maynard Keynes, Lise Meitner, Ayn Rand, Sir Isaac Newton, C. G. Jung, Michel de Montaigne, Michel Nostradamus, and Ada Lovelace. Masterminds comprise only about 1% of the population. Are they serious?

I have an INTJ personality which means Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Judging. It sounds like I may have a conflicted personality. I mean, intuitive and judging don’t usually go hand in hand, do they? Let’s break this down shall we?

Introverted I definitely agree with. I prefer my own company most of the time. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy other people’s company at all, but I am not a social person. I learned a long time ago that you will only have a small number of people in your life that is constant. If you are lucky, you will have a couple of them outside of family members. My best friend is my mom. (Second is my daughter, she’s just awesome). Mom is the one I call when I need to hear a familiar voice. I know, aw! How sweet! Let’s move on.

Intuitive is probably an accurate statement. Since I started back to school in the quest for a real degree, I am looking at the big picture. I see possibilities, not the grim reality of today. I want to dream so this makes sense to me. For years I raised my kids and focused on the immediacy of the moment. That is necessary when kids are asking you a million questions all at the same time. Remember, I had four.

And I would never disagree with the Thinking part of that assessment. Of course I’m brilliant. Don’t you agree? I thought so. Why else would you be reading this?

Judging is also an accurate statement. I have lines in life I refuse to cross. Those include name calling, stealing, murder, any kind of sexual abuse, and being phony. Not necessarily in that order either. You see, a murderer can’t really hide who he/she is. A rapist or pedophile can’t either. Phonies, on the other hand, are a different story. They are everywhere because they feel they need to project a certain image of themselves to the world. The problem is they hurt a lot of people along the way. So my advice to all is simple. Be real and keep your enemies closer! (This philosophy of mine may account for the introverted part of my assessment).

They go on to say that my best career choices would be in the science and technical area with the social services being a lawyer or librarian. Did anyone notice that most of these are more solitary types of careers? I’m thinking they are saying that I need to be in a room by myself. Possibly a rubber one. As far as the lawyer bit goes, no one likes them. I would say my personality is one of anti-socialism. No wonder my mom always calls me a hermit.

As you can see, I am a conflicted, confused, and crazy woman. There IS a reason I call this my rant blog. It is my therapy!

Lessons in Life Pt 4

Try Pt 1, Pt 2, and Pt 3

All she could think of was there were two strangers in camp and they were too close to her kids. The normally friendly, bouncy Boxer was prepared to fiercely defend her territory and its inhabitants. She changed in an instant. Those boys never stood a chance.

By sheer chance, the first boy she went after moved ever so slightly and managed to sidestep her. The second one was not so lucky. He only managed to move enough so Georgie only grabbed hold of his pants leg. Luckily, the man who first brought her home was there. He was shocked but fast. He had never seen her like this. He managed to grab her as she tried again. She was still growling and snarling as he pulled her away.

Never again did that sweet, bouncy, Boxer baby go after another human. She lived the rest of her life with the family who loved her so. The day she left them was a warm August day. Most of the family was home that day. The little handicapped girl who adored her, welcomed and wanted her from the second she laid eyes on her, loved on and petted her for about 20 minutes before deciding she was tired and wanted a nap. The ever caring Georgie waited for her to fall asleep.

A few minutes later Georgie laid her head down for the last time. She had given the little girl the best gift of all. She let her say goodbye.

The reason I told you this story is because that little Boxer girl never once harmed anyone. There was only one time she ever went after a human or animal and that was the one incident in camp. Until that time I would have said she would never do anything like that. No one can guarantee their dog would not harm anyone. Georgie was proof of that.

To this day, Georgie is referred to as the best dog ever. Even the extended family members talk about her and she has been gone since 2001. She and Amanda were thick as thieves and I have a lot of pictures to prove it. What it meant was that if you found one of them you could bet the other one was close. Georgie had a wonderful life with a family who loved her and a family she loved. Can you tell she’s been on my mind?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

More fun on the Scavenger Hunt Sunday with Ashley at Ramblings and Photos. Challenge yourself! I had fun with this week's prompts.

Camera Phone

This is my phone. I love this phone. It comes equipped with two cameras, front and back. The most amazing thing about this phone is that I can even video conference or Skype. Since I grew up in a time when that wasn't a blip on the radar, this is amazing.

Camera

Let me introduce you to one of the most successful camera models of all time. It is the Kodak Brownie. This one happens to be the 8mm movie camera.

Shoes

These boots were made for walking and have been many, many miles with me as you can tell. They are my all time favorite shoes. I still wear them even though the waterproofing no longer works. How's that for dedication?

Chair

This chair is a family heirloom. It was my mother in law's when she was a baby. So far all the grandkids have been photographed in this chair.

Imperfection

This table was my maternal grandmother's. She's gone now, but she was such a powerhouse of a woman, she is never far from my mind. I picture her and Amanda having conversations about our antics here on earth and they are probably having a good laugh. Of course, my uncle is egging them on. About 10 years ago I decided to refinish it but after I took off the the polyurethane finish that was on there, I couldn't sand all the imperfections out of it. They tell a story that my grandparents lived.

Lesson in Life Pt. 3

For the beginning of the story, go here. For the second part, check it out here.

For the next few years, Georgie continued to be part of the family that loved her so much. During that time the family moved to a small town in wonderful Wyoming. Now the little Boxer girl named Georgie didn’t know what to make of her surroundings. She had never been anywhere in the wide open like that. She also knew she didn’t much like dirt. Until the move, the wonderful family had kept her in town where there was lots of grass and not much snow. Wyoming was very different.

There, the family participated in all the things that families do when the kids are growing up. They played in Little League, were Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Georgie was a lucky girl. She was able to go on all the adventures her family experienced. She truly was a part of the family. One of their favorite activities was camping. Georgie wasn’t too sure about this new thing.

One of the children was handicapped so she sat in camp with one of her parents quite a bit. In order to make her more comfortable and warm, they picked up one of those little recliners for kids. She was, after all, small for her age. To help her stay warm, her parents wrapped her in sleeping bag and she was cozy. Georgie kept noticing that sleeping bag would eventually have about a foot and a half that lay on the ground in front of her. That was perfect for Georgie. She didn’t think lying on the dirt was a proper place for a princess such as herself. Besides, she wanted to stick as close as she could to the little girl who welcomed her so warmly the very first moment she saw her.

One Fourth of July the family decided to make it really long weekend. Georgie watched as they set up camp along with other friends of theirs. Georgie was ecstatic with all the kids in camp. She didn’t know whether to lie down or follow the kids everywhere. She finally settled on the corner of the blanket that kept slipping away. Soon she was snoring loudly just like a good Boxer will.

Then it happened. From somewhere near the creek two high school age boys popped into camp. Georgie’s senses suddenly came alive. There was a potential threat to her kids and that threat was in camp.

Lessons in Life Pt. 2

For the first part of the story click here...

A couple of weeks later, the nice lady vet tech met her Schwann’s salesman outside and Baby was right there with her. The ice cream man fell in love with Baby and soon was staying longer at the house just to play with her. Sometimes no one was home and he would just leave the orders in the freezer on the porch but he always took the time to play with Baby.

One day he was talking to the nice rescuer and told her if she ever needed to find a home for her, he would be more than happy to give her one. At that moment, Baby’s fate was sealed. The nice rescuer told him she was looking for a home that the most awesome Baby could finish out her days. That’s when the ice cream man called his wife and told her he was bringing her home.

Later that night, when he arrived home, the kids were all in bed and the only one still up was the ice cream man’s wife. When she saw Baby, she fell in love. Baby was beautiful and friendly. She just knew the kids would love her too. Of course, it would be a surprise for them. And it was a surprise to the parents the next morning.

Right before 6am, the ice cream man and his wife were shocked awake by the terrified screams of their children. They were blood curdling. They were convinced someone was trying to kill their children. As they arrived at the door, they were met by the most hilarious sight. Baby was doing her best Boxer bounce and snort all in rhythm. She had it down to a science.

The four children in the bunk beds were in various emotional states. The oldest three were screaming at the top of their lungs, but the smallest one was not making a sound. Instead, she was tearing at her blankets desperately trying to get them off. She was alternately trying to grab Baby and get out of the bed. The mutual admiration society had been founded and Baby’s life would never be the same. She had just found her forever family. The oldest three soon realized that Baby was the greatest thing ever.

For the next few weeks Baby adjusted to life with a boisterous family. She soon became a fixture because everywhere the family went, Baby went too. Visitors to the house soon fell in love with her. She was welcomed by the extended family and visited their homes too. Baby was finally getting the attention and love she deserved.

The next step in Baby’s life came with her name. Since Boxers are not known for being dainty or delicate, the family decided her name shouldn’t be either. Although it took some time, her name became obvious. It was Georgie; a name still revered today. The goofy, rambunctious, and loveable little girl had solidified her place in history.

Lessons in Life Pt.1

So here’s a lesson for all of you who have dogs. Your dog has the potential to bite someone. No matter how much you believe they wouldn’t, there is always the possibility. I have a story for you that will, hopefully, give you “paws”.

A long time ago, in a galaxy, or lifetime, far, far away lived the best dog ever. (It was 1992).Her life started out rather rough. She was forced to have many litter of puppies before she was able to escape, or was dumped, with a couple of her puppies along a busy highway. Luckily for her, someone took pity on her after she had been hit by a car. The poor baby’s right foot had been crushed.

Not only was she in danger of losing her leg, she was also dangerously thin. You see, she was a boxer. She should have weighed between 50 and 60 pounds. She weighed only 16. She was a pitiful sight. She should have been a robust and healthy dog as boxers tend to be nicely stout. It didn’t matter though. She was a happy, friendly, and resilient dog.

For the next couple of weeks she was nursed back to health by a wonderful vet who made sure her leg was saved, she was fed, and she wouldn’t have to endure more litters of pups. She had done her part in the procreation of her breed. It was time for her to retire. She was a mere 3 years old.

After she rebounded, she was given to the local animal shelter with the hope she would find a home. As the vet tech left, she told them to call her if no one adopted her. She couldn’t see such a nice dog being euthanized. They promised they would, but it’s a good thing she called to check up. The wonderful survivor was next on the list to be euthanized. The vet tech rushed down to the shelter to rescue her and take her home. She decided she could find a home for the little girl she called, “Baby”. Little did she know what lay in store for Baby.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Here we go....For those of you who are worried about the button, J, at Boobies, Babies, & A Blog, and I, are just fine with using one of ours. I don't know how else to tell everyone that we do not have a problem with that. We just want people to join and vent. Just have some fun!!! How hard is that? Here is my list. It is short, but you'll understand.

Fawk You to the fact that we had to put our baby to sleep. The Boo Man was an awesome dog who just couldn't get along with people. He was fine with us, but others could be a concern for him. I never thought I would have an aggressive dog, but I ended up with one. He was a great dog for us, but not for everyone. We will miss him terribly and I'm including a photo I took just yesterday so everyone will know what that face looked like. It was so cute.

Warmer Weather and Sunshine

I know that normally I'm not looking forward to warm weather because I absolutely detest humidity, but this year is a little different. Since the beginning of December, I've been cooped up inside almost every day. I started a new job then and my internship also rolled out. Needless to say, I've spent ALL my time inside.

I'm ready to be outside, enjoying the sunshine, and taking photos. I miss taking all those photos. I love looking around and seeing what looks different to me. How the light plays on a leaf or the water can catch my eye and I become fascinated. Of course, right now I can still find 6 foot high piles of snow. I think the Walmart parking lot has several of those.

Now I'm starting to look forward to getting the boat out. Of course, I hope we have a better year this year. Last year the flooding was so bad that sandbars almost disappeared. Normally there would be huge stretches of beach but the water went all the way up to the trees. Doesn't allow for too much fun when you have no beach. There is no place to set up for a campfire or cooking out and no place for the little kids to play. As you can see from the photo below, there wasn't a lot of room for play.

Keep your fingers crossed I'll be able to share some photos this year. Last year was kind of bad for that.

The Hunt Is On

So the hunt for my new career begins. I have several suggestions from coworkers. (You can tell they know sales are not my forte). One is a company I’m very nervous about. The reputation is somewhat mixed.

Let’s start with an explanation of my degree. It is for Medical Office Administration. That means I’m able to work in a medical office and have a clue. I can run the office basically. At least it sounds good and I’m going with it. Let’s also hope that something comes through soon.

Now I get to read some Webinars instead of attend because of my work schedule. The school is going to help me with the job search. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that something good will come of it.

Photo Challenge: Street

My new friend over at Twisted Fate Photography does a challenge each week. Just head on over every Saturday and link up. I know you'll have fun.

The week's category is Street. What do you see when you look down the street?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

It's time for another edition of Scavenger Hunt Sunday with Ashley at Ramblings and Photos. Come on! Join in! Have some fun looking at life from a different view. I know I do.

Diptych

This is made from a photo I took last June. I just hope I understood the category.

Book (next Paper Heart Camera theme)

These are the kind of books you get when you are working on a business degree. Don't they look exciting?

I did my own take on this category. I had a hard time figuring out how to do this. So here is my interpretation.

Fill in the Blank: When I think about how BEAUTIFUL THE RIVER WAS LAST SUMMER

and how IT LOOKS NOW

I just have to REMEMBER THE FUN WE HAD. (ACoLab inspiration)

A Taste of Italy (Lindsay's suggestion)

I know. Technically the Italians did not invent pasta, but my taste is in the southwest. That means my pasta set is the closest you're going to get to an "Italian" theme at my house. So maybe this should have been a Chinese category for me. After all, rice pasta was their long before the Italians took over.

Reminders (Lindsay's suggestion)

I live and breathe by my phone.
