It's Fawk Flying Friday!

BWS tips button

I know, I know. It seems a little ridiculous that in this time of thankfulness there is something to rant about. Well, it never stops. Let's just say that we have to have the irritations in order to appreciate what we are thankful for. So hook up with me and J at Boobies, Babies, & A Blog to release all the frustrations you've had this past week. Again, you can use either of our button if the finger offends you or your readers. So join us and let the fawks fly!

Mine are fairly short this week with the exception of one. Here we go!

Fawk You to my back and legs. I stood on my legs all day and with the bending and lifting all day to prepare for the Thanksgiving dinner THEY DECIDED TO HURT FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT!!! REALLY?!!? HOW RUDE!!!

And last, but not least, FAWK YOU TO TAILGATERS!!! I don't mean the kind that has parties at football games and NASCAR races. I'm talking about the kind that GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A VEHICLE AND RIDE THE BUMPER OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM!!! HOW DARE YOU PULL UP SO CLOSE TO ME THAT I CANNOT SEE THE HOOD OF YOUR CAR. I WAS IN A KIA RIO!!! A TINY CAR ITSELF!!! IF YOU ARE SO CLOSE THAT ALL I CAN IS YOUR WINDSHIELD, YOU ARE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CLOSE!!!! BACK UP OFF MY BUMPER!!!

That's all I have for this edition of Fawk You Friday. What are your frustrations this week? We really want to hear them. Get them off your chest. (Again, don't tell Boobies I said that. OMG!!! I could be in serious trouble for that one). Just let the fawks fly!!!

Have A Great Day!

Have I said Happy Thanksgiving yet?

What A Day I Had

Yesterday was going to be a normal day. I was going shopping for all my Thanksgiving needs. I made one stop. That was WalMart. I got all the basics I needed there and then went to my daughter’s to pick up a high chair. Yes, I’m a grandma that does not have a high chair. Neither did mine so I’m following a tradition. Since we will have one that is the size for it, I’m borrowing my daughter’s. She lives in another town about 10 miles from where I live. I had no problems at all getting to her house and I made it back to Sam’s to try to finish my shopping for the day. This is where my day turned south.

I did my shopping at Sam’s and went through the checkout just to be told that my card was declined. That has never happened to me. I was not a happy camper. The problem was I didn’t have time to get it straightened out at the bank because my son’s car would not start and he needed a jump. That was me.
So I hopped on I90 to scoot over to my daughter’s, which is where my son is currently staying. That’s another story.

There is approximately 6 miles from the Sam’s Club to their house. I was about a mile away from the exit for their town WHEN IT HAPPENED. In a split second, I felt a slight vibration, saw in my peripheral vision a black speck on the highway and heard a loud boom. Then there was another horrendous noise that took me a couple of seconds to recognize. My muffler was gone. But that wasn’t the only thing.

I didn’t want to slam on my brakes because the holiday traffic was extremely heavy. By the time I got the car stopped, I knew what it was. My drive shaft had exploded…literally. I hit my hazard lights and I was on the phone before I even got out of the car. This is the conversation minus certain words.

Me: May I speak to my husband? A few seconds later he’s on the phone.

Hubs: What’s going on?

Me: Bring the truck, the trailer and pick me up. I’m on I90 about a mile away from our daughter’s.

Hubs: Why?

Me: The drive shaft blew apart at 65mph. It also took out the muffler. (That he just put on last
weekend).

Hubs: %$&^!!! What the hell happened?

Me: I was driving and there was this loud boom. The muffler is lying on the ground behind the car along
with the connector.

Hubs: What the %$&^!!!

Me: Are you coming?

Hubs: Yes. I’m leaving now.

By this time, a state police car had arrived to save the day. So I had an experience today that was a first for me. I rode in the back of a police car. The only other time I had been in a police car was about 31 years ago when I was in an accident and I sat in the front seat with the cop to give him my statement. Otherwise, in my 48 years on this planet, I’ve never been in one. Let’s just say I found this amusing. Another first for me. Yay me!

The good thing about 4WD is what you can do with it. In this case, my husband removed 4 bolts, and I locked it into 4High and drove it home. It was a little noisy with no muffler. So now my car is in the garage, once again. Where I hope it will soon be on its merry way again. What a day!!!

My Buddy Ange

My Buddy Ange probably thought I dropped off the face of the earth. Well, she was kind of right. I’m so far behind in my reading that I can’t seem to see any light at the end of the tunnel. So here is what I’m doing for the next few days. I will be catching up on all my reading. It’s a promise. I start a new job on December 6th, so I may have some issues after that, but I’ll try to keep forging ahead. Wish me luck.

I started this about Ange. She has a giveaway going on and the last time I looked, she only had four entries. It’s a giveaway for 5 bags of Cadbury mini eggs. Yum! Let’s go folks. Head over there and join up with Ange for the giveaway. She’s a really fun chick.

News Flash! My Heart Stopped By Hail!

OK, so my heart almost stopped. I was not prepared for the hail this morning. My concern was for my car. (My daughter said she was startled by it at her house because she was sitting right next to a rather large window. I know, it sounds like I wasn't concerned for her, but she lives in her own house and I didn't know this until after the fact.)I didn’t put it in the garage last night so when the hail hit, I was nuts. Here’s the funny part about my car.

It is a ’95 Toyota 4Runner. Yes, it’s old. I live in the Upper Midwest so, yes, there is rust. BUT, (AND THIS IS A BIG ONE), there is not one, I mean, not one door ding on that car. And the interior is almost as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line.

And this morning it was hailed on. OMG!!!

The Holidays

I am trying to get myself psyched up for the crazy schedule I’ll be on soon. Between work, internship, and school, I’m sure it will be a rather busy time. Luckily it will start after Thanksgiving. It gives me some time to ramp up. Wish me luck! I may need it.

I think it will help me get through the season. It’s really hard sometimes because Amanda LOVED the holidays. She loved all the lights. I would have lights all over the place because she thought they were great. The tree is a story in itself. It goes up the day before Thanksgiving in honor of her. I love the smell of a fresh tree, but years ago I made the switch for her.

She wasn’t able to walk without assistance so she scooted around the house with one sock half hanging off her foot. And she was fast. You should have seen how fast she could move when she was mad. That hand was slapping the floor while she was moving and she was yelling “On” the time. That was her “No”. It was her version of the stomp off. We usually had to turn around to keep from laughing at her. Good times!

The artificial tree came about so she wouldn’t get stuck by pine needles. She spent an inordinate amount of time at the base of the tree. I always put candy canes on the tree for decoration and she would take them off from the bottom and as high as she could reach. She never ate them but she carried them around. Sometimes she would hide them. I guess she thought I wouldn’t notice. Right! I always put more on the tree so she could sneak them off again.

I still put candy canes on the tree and they still disappear. Now it’s the grandkids that take them. But they’re still small, so they can only reach so high. I miss peaking around the corner just to watch her. That smile could fix anything that ails you. If I could see it every day, I would never have another bad day. My kids understand this because they feel the same way. We miss her every day.

Let The Fawks Fly!!!

BWS tips button

Yes, here we go again! It's that time of the week when we let the Fawks fly! Just let them go and they will be no more. At least not until next week. So link up with me or J at Boobies, Babies, & A Blog for more fun than you know how to handle. If you doubt me, then join us and find out. Now let's get started.

As we've said before, if you are not comfortable with the button, you are more than welcome to use mine or J's so we know you're in on the hop. Then just post your frustrations for the week. You know, anyone who ticked you off or just ruffled your feathers. We want you to share so you can get rid of them. How else do you lose those if you aren't letting the fawks fly? Come on now. You know you want to. I just know.

My list is a tad short this week. I've had some really good news this week between getting a job and the probability I will be able to get my internship done. Yay for me! I'm so stoked. But I do have a couple of fawks that need to fly. Here they are.

Fawk You to pedophiles. YOU SHOULD ROT IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! JUST LIKE THIS GUY!!!

Fawk You to the cloudy skies over the upper Midwest. I AM MISSING THE LEONIDS METEOR SHOWER!!! I CANNOT SEE THROUGH CLOUDS!!!

And, lastly, Fawk You to this headache I've had going on for the last two days. DO YOU REALIZE HOW MISERABLE I AM ALL DAY EVERY DAY?!!? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Okay, there you go. You know you want to so just grab your computer and start writing. It's as simple as that. I'm waiting.

Stop The Abuse Of Pumpkins Now!!!

All across the country the abuse of pumpkins is spreading. It is a hideous quirk of human nature that must be abolished. Join with me in the push for stricter laws regarding this horrible practice. We must stop this now!!!

Fawks Are Flying Fairly Frequently!!!

Come on! You know you want to join the fun!

Are You Ready For Thanksgiving?

When I was growing up we lived a long way from our grandparents. Every year we made the 350 mile trip to spend this holiday with my Dad’s parents. It was always a big deal to go. I am the oldest grandchild and I was the only girl for ten years. It was great!

My grandfather was my only living grandfather since my Mom’s father had passed away several years before. So my paternal grandfather always said we were two of a kind. That meant I got to sit upstairs with the adults while all the bratty boys were banished to the basement. How great is that? Things have changed since then.

Since my kids were young, we’ve lived a long way from their grandparents. That means we’ve pretty much done Thanksgiving and Christmas with just our immediate family. We almost always have an extra or two because there is always someone who doesn’t have family near. They become part of ours for a while.

Over the years we’ve added a few members to the family. Some are the grandkids, of course, and some are attached to our kids. In other words, their significant others. Some have come and gone, but ours is still the house everyone comes to. I have a feeling it won’t stop any time soon.

This year is no different. I already know of one extra we will have. A friend of my son’s does not have family here so he will be sharing our table too. I hope it doesn’t scare him too much as our family can be rather loud and rambunctious. I know my SIL is always uncomfortable with it. Oh well!

So what are the plans at your house this year? Will you spend it with all your family? Or do you only have your immediate family there? Do you have a job that requires that you work on those days? Let’s hear what you are doing.

Adding To The Good News...

My meeting to discuss an internship with the hospital went very well. I feel pretty good about it and hope to hear more about it by Friday. I feel like I’m going from 0 to 100 if a very short time frame. I’m sure it will be fine. I kind of prefer that. Makes the days go by faster and although most don’t like time to go by so fast, I find something new every day. And I love to see what’s around the corner. It means I can still appreciate it. How’s that for optimism?

What Does This Say To You?

What I find interesting is what the message may be trying to say. Is it saying that marriage is bad? Or is it saying that gay marriage is not a bad thing? I love it when I see things like this because you can take it either way. This is when true prejudice shows up. You either see a good message, or a bad message in those few words. What do you see?

I FINALLY HAVE A JOB!!!

Yes, you read correctly with the title. I am now gainfully employed. It has been so long. I couldn’t even get a bite for almost a year. Ok, maybe I had two interviews. But all I ever got was an email that said, “I’m sorry but we found someone better”. I know, not those exact words, but I can read between the lines. I didn’t get this far not being able to figure things out.

The worst part of being unemployed, aside from the financial issue, is being rejected over and over again. The emails or letters in the actual snail mail that say you were not chosen. There was someone else who fit their needs more closely. I have so many of those on file that I’ve run out of space in the physical file and the email file is huge. Then there are the things that people don’t say but you know they are thinking.

You all know my relationship with my husband is not good. He hasn’t had issues with this time I’ve had without a job, but he has in the past. He hasn’t had problems finding a job when he needed to or just wanted to change jobs. I, on the other hand, have had a myriad of issues. For years it had to do with our youngest, Amanda. From the time she was four, there have been times when she was not able to go to school for weeks at a time. I can remember times it was three weeks at a stretch. A cold would keep her out for a week. When she got a virus of some sort that was more intense than a cold, it could be a month. If it was a case where she spent time in the hospital, she could be out for longer than a month. It was that way for the rest of her life.

Then there was the child care problem. How hard do you think it is to find a daycare provider willing to take a child that had to be carried at times, had severe osteoporosis, was prone to seizures, and didn’t say words you could understand? It is difficult. Then if you are lucky enough to find someone, will they keep her all day with all the other healthy kids when she can’t go to school? I don’t know any daycare that does that. I’ve only known one and that happened to be run by my maid of honor. She runs one in her home and she always took Amanda. The problem was we didn’t live where she does for more than a couple of years.

So this round has been especially difficult. I have never considered myself a freeloader even though I’m sure others have. When you’ve been married as long as I have I don’t understand that thought. I feel like I’ve contributed because I did have kids that I drove all over the place and made sure they were doing things they wanted to do. I even became a Cub Master for the boys because no one else could do it. The perception that I sit around all day doing nothing is FAR from the truth. I still have school and I love taking pictures. Some of which I have shared here. I have also been putting in applications all over the place. That takes a lot of time and energy no matter what anyone thinks.

I’m looking forward to this new challenge. I am so ready to have a schedule again. It means I can breathe now. Yay!

Finally!!!

I have good news to report! I FINALLY HAVE AN INTERVIEW!!! I was beginning to think I would never get one. It’s been almost a year. Yes, that’s a long time. I know. I haven’t been having a lot of fun with it. The only good thing about it is that I was able to spend more time with the grandkids. Other than that it sucked. And that isn’t all!

I also have an interview to get my internship started. My graduation has been put off twice now because of this. I live in a town with three well established colleges and that leads to exclusivity contracts. I think this will actually get me the degree and that will also help down the road with better paying jobs. Yay!!!

So I’ll have to keep you updated on the happenings. I’m stoked!!!

The Fawks Are Flying Again!!!

BWS tips button

Oh yeah! It's time to air your grievances and let the fawks fly! I know I'm in for it this week. There have been a couple of issues I've had. Just hook up with me and J, at Boobies, Babies, & A Blog, for the most fun you'll have with your clothes on. Of course, with this you could be unclothed, we just can't see it. In my case, that's a good thing. (Stop snickering at that one. I'll know who did.) Use the button, one of ours or your own it makes no nevermind to us. Just link up and vent. Cause I said so. I wouldn't tell you this if it wasn't a lot of fun now would I?

Now my list isn't too long but I'm really ticked. So here goes.

This one comes with a visual. Fawk You to the muskrat. Yes, the muskrat. YOU COULDN'T SIT STILL FOR A SHORT TIME WITHOUT TELLING ME OFF SO I COULD GET A GREAT SHOT? WOULD THAT BE SO DIFFICULT?

Fawk You to anyone who does not accept they have faults and who needs to grow up. GROW UP ALREADY AND STOP CALLING PEOPLE NAMES!!! YOU DON'T LIKE IT WHEN SOMEONE CALLS YOU ONE!!!

Fawk You to haters. They seem to be everywhere. DO YOU HAVE TO ALWAYS RUIN THINGS FOR EVERYONE ELSE? YOU BEAT UP A KID OVER HER NAME!!! MAYBE I DON'T LIKE YOURS!!! DID YOU EVER THINK OF THAT?

And here's the big one. FAWK YOU TO CANCER!!! YOU TAKE CHILDREN AWAY FROM THEIR PARENTS, SISTERS, BROTHERS, GRANDPARENTS, AND COUSINS. YOU SHOULD BE ERADICATED FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I WILL TELL YOU THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. GET USED TO IT, BUT BETTER YET? GO AWAY!!!

There you have it. Now let your fawks fly so we can sympathize. We're good at it. And we hope that J is feeling better today. Poor girl had a root canal yesterday. Yikes! Now that's a reason to let the fawks fly if ever I heard one.

Choices Women Make

I know you all are aware that I watch CNN for my news. My favorite time of day is when Jack Cafferty gets to expound on the Cafferty file. I suspect he and I would get along pretty well as we both have extremely dry senses of humor and tend to be rather sarcastic. I found this topic he chose rather interesting.

Before anyone thinks badly of this statement you should know my kids have heard this and understand it. I could have been the woman who never had kids and I would have been okay with that. Since I had my kids, my thought process is simple. I would not change anything and I would die for them. But I can understand the choice not to have them.

It is difficult these days to raise kids. Most people who live in the middle income level still have issues with the cost of raising them. College is so out of most people’s range there is no way they can just “send them to school”. Most of them end up with student loans they are paying back for years and years. Then there is the lack of freedom.

Women have so many more choices these days. They have a better shot at making enough money to enjoy the things they like to do. That might be travel or it may just be collecting expensive things. Those two things alone can be out of the question with children. What if a woman wants to have a career that enables her to live in different places and countries? That becomes more difficult when kids are in the mix. I have met nurses who are in a program that enables them to work in one place for six weeks then move to another place. It is financially beneficial as the pay is high and their expenses are all paid. On top of all that, they get to choose where they go. How fun would that be?

I say life can be fulfilling even if you choose not to have children. Women have so many more options today than most had in the 1950’s. I say that’s a good thing. Choices are where it’s at.

Is There Hope?

I found a video on CNN where a clinical psychologist and the mother of a 5 year old boy were interviewed. The uproar leading to this interview was regarding the boy’s choice of Halloween costume. He wanted to be Daphne from Scooby Doo. Yes, a boy, wanted to have a girl costume for Halloween. And I repeat he is 5. What happened because his parents decided to support him in this choice was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

At the school Halloween party, several other mothers from the class decided to take it upon themselves to berate the boy’s mom for allowing him to wear that costume. Keep in mind that none of the other kids said anything negative to him about his choice. Because of that, mom decided to make a post on her blog about the incident and her feelings about it. She has since received almost 20,000 comments about it. Luckily, most of them are positive.

I take issue with some of what the psychologist had to say because he feels that the boy is gay and the mother outed him on her blog. Again he’s 5. I’m not sure if a 5 year old can say what or who he is just yet. I have seen many kids be drawn to the opposite sex in ways that some people believe does not fit the mold. Here’s an example and it is a personal one. In Kindergarten, my daughter wanted to dress in camouflage for Halloween. She didn’t want to wear a skirt of camouflage she wanted to wear a headband, pants, and the camouflage makeup. Some would argue she was dressing like a boy. Well guess what? That same child has her own child and has been with the father of that child for many years now. She is not gay. She was 5 at time of the camo outfit.

So the parents of the other kids had an issue with that boy’s costume. Now I learn of another incident involving 12 year olds who did not like a girl’s name. They felt it was too masculine a name. So she got beat up by several of these bullies in school because of her name. It’s “Randi” by the way. That story can be found here. What adds to this story as being so horrible is that the beating was caught on video at the school and no one called the authorities. (Of course the parents of the victim haven’t either). I find that disturbing. Not only is bullying allowed by the school, they apparently do not have to call the police when they SEE A CRIME!!! I find that to be a most disturbing aspect of this. We send our children to school and trust that if some serious happens to them, they will call someone to ensure the crime is reported.

I’ll be honest. I am so disgusted with what is happening to kids around the country. With bullying and prejudice obviously being ignored, it’s a wonder that our kids aren’t completely refusing to attend school. The result can be horrific when they do. Some of them have chosen suicide over school. What does that say about our society? So how do we feel about the parents who supported their son’s costume? I, for one, am proud of them. He will grow up feeling accepted for who he is.

And finally, something that reinforces to me that there are redeeming qualities about this country.

Is This Good Or Bad?

As I was preparing my initial discussion post for my Cultural Diversity class this week, I was hit by a feeling of sadness. On one hand, it shows the awareness of the educational institutions of the need to work with all different types of people. On the other hand, it is sad that it has to be given as a class in college. I’m not sure what this says about our society.

Shouldn’t we already be at a place where everyone is accepted? I would have hoped that to be the case, but as we all know it doesn’t happen. There is still too much prejudice in the world to miss a teaching moment. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need acceptance, not tolerance. There is a huge difference between the two.

This Time Of Year

This time of year gets a little difficult for me. It's the time I start figuring out where the tree will be placed. Yes, my tree is artificial for a very good reason. It has to do with needles and length of time it's up. It goes up the day before Thanksgiving and comes down after Christmas. A full month is a long time, but there is a story behind that time frame. That's for another day.
