Why is everyone on Capitol Hill so reluctant to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? How hard is it to give loyal, patriotic soldiers the option to be open about who they are? What makes them less than human in the eyes of Congress? Why do they have to be “separated”? Are we being told they have some dreaded disease that will spread like an epidemic? Are we being told they are not as intelligent as the rest of us?
These are people who fight for our country just like any other soldier in our armed forces. They sweat like every other soldier. They learn and become experts at every part of combat fighting they are taught like every other soldier. They help other soldiers when they are wounded like every other soldier. They bleed like every other soldier. They die like every other soldier.
I am ashamed of our Congress right now. Our duly elected officials are discriminating against those soldiers who VOLUNTEER for service. We do not have a draft. Every soldier who serves has volunteered for the service they provide us. They have made a conscious decision to defend the United States of America. And the lawmakers do nothing to support them. We already have enough soldiers coming home with PTSD and showing deep emotional problems. Why would we add to that by not letting them be who they are?
I am proud of those soldiers. I do not care if they are black, red, white, purple, green, or blue. And I really do not care what their sexual orientation is. They are heroes to me. They should be to every American citizen.
